The October update, without the hype

On 13 October 2026, Google described its October Demand Gen product update. Announced items include a Data Strength Uplift metric in Google Ads, expansion of Data Manager connections to DV360 and GA, and forthcoming enhanced conversions in additional products. Some features were described as launching or coming soon; check your own account and documentation before assuming availability. Any average platform uplift claim is based on Google’s specified analysis, not a forecast for your campaigns.

What data strength means in practice

An advertising algorithm can optimise only against signals it receives. Begin with a documented conversion: sale, qualified enquiry or another event with business significance. Check that it fires once per genuine action, that duplicate leads do not inflate figures and that personal information is handled lawfully. Consent and privacy obligations are separate from a technical tag installation.

Separate platform metrics from margin

A high ROAS can disguise weak economics if product costs, refunds, payment charges and ad management costs are absent. Calculate contribution after variable costs and advertising for a more realistic view. Use our advertising profit planner. For service enquiries where deals mature slowly, the lead-quality funnel planner can show how qualification and close rates affect allowable acquisition cost.

A sensible measurement review order

  1. List each primary conversion and the business action it represents.
  2. Review tag quality, deduplication and campaign attribution assumptions.
  3. Compare platform-reported conversion value with your own financial records.
  4. Document missing signals, integration requirements and privacy approvals.
  5. Change only one important variable at a time and record the observation period.

Do not treat an implementation choice as mandatory

Google’s announcement covers products and integrations that may not suit every business. Smaller companies with a lightweight site can maintain simpler workflows, provided they understand the limits of measurement and legal obligations. DigiPublishing’s free tools run locally and do not request access to advertising or analytics accounts.

When professional review helps

If conversions fluctuate despite stable sales, or platform reporting conflicts with business records, commission an audit of the conversion journey before expanding spend. See analytics and reporting and Google Ads management.
